Daryl Brown

Shipment presents, ‘No Motion Occurring’, a collaborative installation by Daryl Brown (b. 1984, UK), Oliver Durcan (b. 1991, UK) and Realf Heygate (b. 1994, UK) with engineering support from Elliot Brown (b. 1995, UK) and Edward Durcan (b. 1993, UK).
The sensory and interactive presentation in a 6,000ft2 ex-factory hall combines painting, sculpture, sound and site exploring the displacement and speed of attention. ‘No Motion Occurring’ is the second of four exhibitions Shipment will hold at Building F, The Biscuit Factory, Bermondsey and is supported by Shapes Collective, Forma and The University of East London.
Two large paintings by Realf Heygate take direct reference from Karl Blossfledt’s 1928 Urformen der Kunst (Art Forms in Nature) photographic publication. These photographs were originally intended for use by design and drawing students to observe paused natural forms that, in a natural habitat, would move and change. With an interest in the motivations to freeze or paralyze natural occurrences, the three artists and two engineers in ‘No Motion Occurring’ present dedicated structures, conditions and images that are made for slowing down or stopping.
